Shifting Brains
This is an exercise to shift gears from Brain 1 (the analytical mind) to Brain 2 (the relaxed problem-solving Belly Brain).
This technique is a little involved, at first. But once you practice it once or twice, you'll get the hang of it, and you'll be able to do it on the fly!

Exercise:
-
Sit comfortably
-
Close your eyes
-
Think of (visualize) something innocuous such as a rose
-
Become aware of where you feel you are having the thought/image of it (you may demonstrate this, yourself, by pointing to where on your head you feel has the best image of the rose)
Next,
-
Think of something taxing, an upcoming challenge you have, such as a test, work, or an unavoidable meeting with someone they don’t like.
-
Again, become aware of where you feel you are having the feeling about it
Next,
-
Think about the challenge again, and focus on it, thinking about how to solve it as a problem.
-
You may think about,
-
“What is going to happen?” “What is it going to be like?”
-
“How am I going to fix this?”
-
This is the analytical mind at work
-
Then,
-
Become aware of where you feel you are having the thought, where you are visualizing and thinking about the problem.
-
Stay with that for just a moment.
Then,
-
Remember your Belly Brain,
-
Bring your awareness to your Belly Brain.
-
Take a moment to reconnect with the feeling of your Belly Brain.
Then,
-
Go back to the problem,
-
Bring it down into your Belly Brain, thinknig of it using your Belly Brain, lletting your Belly Brain solve it.
