Feeling Heavy

  • In the Classroom - Lesson 6

Example experiment:

If you have time, it could be a fun demonstration of how our nervous system can be over-activated.

  • Have the students take turns standing in a doorway, lifting their arms (probably just their hands) until they press against the door jams.

  • Have them continue applying pressure. … And continue…. for a few seconds. Perhaps, have them count to ten.

  • As they do this, you can ask them where they feel the pressure in their body. On the backs of their hands? In they’re arms? In their shoulders? In their chest? Throughout their whole body?

  • Have your students step out of the doorway. They will most likely feel there ares naturally, automatically, rise. You can point out that this is what happens to the highly-focused mind, too.
