Eye Roll

  • In the Classroom - Lesson 4

Lesson:

  • This can have profound relaxation and problem solving effects.

    • When you are asleep your eyes roll up. By rolling your eyes up on your own, you trigger your brain to relax. You’ve heard of the advice, “Fake it ’til you make it.” Perhaps rolling your eyes up like this fakes your brain into thinking it should start feeling very relaxed and wanting to sleep.

    • When you roll your eyes up you are exercising many muscles (I think 24 totaling all the little muscles of the eyelids and eyeballs of both eyes). That’s quite a work out. By rolling your eyes up several times your body and brain (your mind) thinks that it’s had quite a work out and wants to relax and take a little break.

    • If people find the eye rolling technique uncomfortable, have them just focus their attention to the top of their head, with their eyes closed, and let them see what happens. When I was a little kid I was very stressed out. This was one of my tricks to relax quickly and profoundly.
