Balance - Standing

  • In the Classroom - Lesson 10

Lesson:

Now that you have control over your breathing, and are developing an awareness of how it affects your nervous system, you are ready to take it to the next level.

  • The nervous system is the communication highway for your body/mind. Your nerves send energy and information to and from all parts of your body. When you are slouching, your nervous system sends information to muscles to “pull the skeleton up straight, keeps this body from falling over,” for example.

  • Balancing your skeletal system (your support system) lets your muscles relax, your nerves relax, and thus, your mind relax.

  • A balanced posture lets your breathing be deep and easy, let’s all your organs function easily, and keeps your health, energy, and self confidence high.

  • Slouching is hard on your spine, on your nerves, and hinders the operation of that big nerve center between your ears: Your Brain.

  • People often equate slouching with relaxation, but actually it has the opposite effect on your body. Slouching creates stress.

  • Slouching also is harmful for your self-esteem. Good posture promotes a positive, confident attitude.
