Balance - Standing

  • In the Classroom - Lesson 10

Exercise:

 

  • Have the class stand up and stretch. There may be a lot of giggling. But remind them to stretch and feel their energy. Feel how good it feels to be alive and be who they are in their healthy bodies.
     

  • Have them close their eyes and feel their balance. Have them rock back and forth and feel where their balance naturally takes them. Often we stand further back in the foot, if not the heel, than we usually do. 
     

  • Have them imagine a string attached to the back top part of their head. And have them imagine hanging from it like an ornament. They may notice their neck elongate, their chin tuck in a little, their shoulders relax and drop. 
     

  • Have them feel their energy in this stance. It may be a very new, and wonderful feeling for them.If you have extra time, or later in the week, you may
     

  • Have them stand against a wall for a minute. Have them press their whole back and as much of their body as they can, against the wall. They can hold this for one minute, and then walk around holding this posture for another whole minute.
