This is a Mindfulness technique that lets the students focus their awareness on what it feels like to be completely relaxed. Feeling what its like will usually trigger the relaxation response.

If you can, have your students lay on a carpeted floor.

If seated, suggest they have their hands in their knees or in their lap so they can have a soft place where their arm can land safety, comfortably, and silently.

They needn't raise their arms (or just their hands) more than a few inches.
