Trust

  • In the Classroom - Lesson 15

20 minute Exercise:

During this whole exercise, at each step, remember to pause and remind them to focus on the feeling of trust. Ask them, “What does it feel like in your body? Remember the feeling."

  • Guide the students to…

    • sit or lie on the floor (It’s important that the students can completely relax without threat of falling over and getting hurt.)

    • close their eyes

    • think of how they can trust the chair they are sitting on, or the floor they're lying on.

    • think of someone, or something, who they feel they can completely Trust. This “person” may be

      • someone they know: a friend, a sibling, a parent, a teacher (living or deceased, or not yet born)

      • a pet

      • a favorite toy or thing

      • a favorite place

      • a rock

      • a plant

      • a spirit, someone they have known who has passed on, a guardian angel, God, …

      • the Universe

      • whatever/whoever they choose

    • think of how they can trust this building

    • this planet

    • this solar system

    • the Universe

  • Then guide them back through, in reverse order

  • Have the students imagine seeing (sensing) each item on this list (the earth, the solar system…) smiling at [the student], knowing that they can trust [the student] to always be there for them.  This may seem totally goofy and over-the-top, but I think it’s actually immensely valuable in that it stimulates mirror neurons, seeing someone else exhibits trust towards us is one of (if not THE) most powerful trust-inducing acts.

  • Again, remind them to focus on the feeling of trust and remember the feeling. Practice remembering throughout the day whenever they want to be their best!
