Shifting Brains
-
In the Classroom - Lesson 17
Exercise:
Direct the students to close their eyes
-
Have them think of (visualize) something innocuous such as a rose
-
Have them point to where they feel they are having the thought/image of it (you may demonstrate this, yourself, by pointing to where on your head you feel has the best image of the rose)
-
Next, have them think of something taxing, an upcoming challenge such as a test, or an unavoidable meeting with someone they don’t like.
-
Have them point to where they feel they are having the feeling about it (maybe it’s in their chest, or their arms… it could be anywhere)
-
Next, have them think about the, and focus on the challenge, thinking about how to solve it as a problem. They can think about,
-
“What is going to happen?” “What is it going to be like?”
-
“How am I going to fix this?”
-
This is the analytical mind at work
-
-
Then, have them point to where they feel they are having the thought, where they are visualizing and thinking about the problem. Let them stay with that for just a moment.
-
Then, direct them to remember their Belly Brain, bring their awareness to their Belly Brain. Let them have a moment to reconnect with the feeling of their Belly Brain.
-
Then, have them go back to their problem, and bring it down into their Belly Brain, letting their Belly Brain solve it.
